Who I am
I'm Daniel Gebert. I studied biology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and did my PhD there. Afterwards I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge. Today I work as a bioinformatician in clinical bioinformatics and molecular diagnostics in Germany.
I write the lessons, quiz questions and glossary entries of Codon One, and I develop the app.
Why Codon One exists
Codon One turns a full biology course into short, illustrated lessons you can read on your phone. A quiz after every section shows what stayed, flashcards bring the key terms back at growing intervals, and the glossary explains the vocabulary along the way.
The goal is a course that is accurate enough for university and clear enough for a first introduction, split into pieces that fit into a few minutes.
How the content is made
- I write every lesson, quiz question and glossary entry myself, in English and German.
- The other 19 languages are translated from these originals. Mistakes can slip through, in the science or in a translation. You can flag them from any lesson in the app or email info@codon-one.com.
- Ribo, the AI study helper in the app, answers questions about lesson pages, glossary entries and missed quiz questions. Its answers are generated by an AI model and can contain mistakes.
- Last updated: October 2026.
