Ionic Bond

Attraction between charged ions

Forms after electron transfer

An ionic bond is an electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions. It forms when one atom effectively takes an electron from another, creating a positively charged cation and a negatively charged anion. Ionic interactions are weaker than covalent bonds in water because water molecules surround and stabilize separated ions.
