Sugar, phosphate, and nucleobase
A nucleotide consists of a sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogen-containing base. Ribonucleotides build RNA, while deoxyribonucleotides build DNA. Nucleotide triphosphates also provide energy for nucleic acid polymerization, and ATP is a central nucleotide in cellular energy transfer.
