Polarity

Uneven distribution of electric charge

Controls solubility and interactions

Polarity describes an unequal distribution of charge within a molecule. It arises when atoms differ in electronegativity and pull shared electrons unequally, creating partial positive and negative regions. Polar molecules interact well with water and other polar molecules, while nonpolar molecules tend to avoid water.
